Nayi Alhassan, popularly known as Ngbagu, has successfully defended his position as the National Democratic Congress (NDC) chairman for the Tamale North constituency. In a keenly contested election, Alhassan secured 518 votes to maintain his leadership role. His victory came against two other contenders: Salifu Mohammed, who garnered 352 votes, and Abdul Halim Wayo Issahaku, who received 147 votes. The outcome confirms Alhassan's continued influence within the constituency as the party begins its internal restructuring.
The constituency-level elections also saw a new slate of executives elected to steer the party's affairs. Salman Faris Inusah emerged as the constituency secretary after polling 598 votes, while Mutala Hussein was elected as the vice-chairman with 476 votes. The position of deputy secretary was secured by Iddrisu Mohammed Nurideen, who obtained 519 votes. These results reflect a mix of continuity and new leadership within the local party hierarchy as they prepare for future electoral challenges.
In other key results from the Tamale North polls, Mateen Mohammed claimed the treasurer position with a significant 639 votes. The role of communications officer was won by Baba Tahiru, who secured the highest individual vote count among the executive positions with 774 votes. The successful conduct of these elections is part of the NDC’s broader national reorganisation strategy. This process is aimed at strengthening grassroots party structures across the country as the party, under the leadership of President John Mahama, looks ahead to consolidating its position and preparing for the 2028 general elections.
