The Nanumba North Municipal Assembly has officially inaugurated a new Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound at Nasongdo in the Northern Region. The facility is designed to provide critical healthcare services to remote farming communities within the Chamba East Electoral Area, addressing long-standing challenges regarding medical accessibility in the district. Prior to the opening of this compound, residents were forced to travel long distances to health centers in Chamba or Bimbilla for basic medical attention and emergency care.
Northern Regional Minister Ali Adolf John, who led the inauguration ceremony, emphasized that the project is part of a broader commitment by President John Mahama’s administration to extend quality healthcare to hard-to-reach areas. The facility is equipped to handle essential services, with a specific focus on maternity care and pediatric health. Local leaders noted that the lack of nearby medical facilities had previously contributed to a rise in maternal deaths and other preventable health complications due to the travel burden on pregnant women and children.
Despite the completion of the Nasongdo facility, significant gaps in healthcare infrastructure remain within the region. Currently, 22 out of the 43 electoral areas in the Nanumba North Municipality still lack dedicated CHPS compounds. Government officials indicated that the inauguration of the Nasongdo site is one step in a continuing effort to scale up health infrastructure across the municipality to ensure that no community is left without basic medical support. The new facility is expected to serve as a model for future healthcare deployments in the Northern Region.
