Mustapha Gbande, the Deputy General Secretary, and Joseph Yammin, the National Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), have officially filed their nominations to seek re-election. The move comes as the party prepares for its national executive elections scheduled for December 19, 2026. Both incumbents submitted their nomination forms during the designated window that opened on October 20 and closed on October 21, 2026, signaling their intent to maintain their influence within the party's leadership structure. Mustapha Gbande emphasized the necessity of experienced leadership to sustain the party's organizational momentum during his campaign announcement. He expressed strong support for the administration of President John Mahama, asserting that his re-election would help solidify the party's internal structures. Gbande argued that the NDC requires seasoned officials who understand the complexities of national electoral campaigns as they look ahead to the 2028 general elections. Similarly, National Organiser Joseph Yammin highlighted the importance of continuity and commitment within the NDC's executive body. Yammin pointed out that as several senior party members may transition into various government roles under the Mahama administration, maintaining a core of experienced party executives is essential to avoid leadership gaps. He pointed to his track record in grassroots organization as a key factor in his bid to remain in his current role. The upcoming elections in December will determine the leadership team responsible for guiding the NDC through President Mahama's current term. With the nomination period now concluded, the party is expected to move into the vetting and active campaigning phases. The re-election bids of both Gbande and Yammin reflect a broader strategic focus on stability as the party balances its governing responsibilities with internal organizational goals.
