Mfantsipim School, Ghana's oldest secondary institution, celebrated its 150th anniversary with a Sesquicentennial Awards and Fundraising Dinner at the Accra International Conference Centre. The event brought together alumni, corporate entities, and benefactors to honor the school's extensive history and secure financial support for upcoming infrastructure and educational projects. This milestone celebration focused on the school's evolution since its founding in 1876 with only 17 students into a prominent institution that has produced global leaders such as former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan and former Vice-President Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur.
During the ceremony, the Anniversary Planning Committee Chairman, Capt. John B. Yamoah, emphasized that the 150-year mark is not the end of the school's journey but a call to continue its development. The event featured an awards segment acknowledging the significant contributions of alumni, staff, and community members toward the school's growth. Under the theme "Mfantsipim at 150: A Legacy of Excellence, Leadership and Service," the gathering aimed to inspire future generations to uphold the institution's high standards and contribute meaningfully to national development.
The fundraising efforts are designed to sustain the school’s educational mission and maintain its legacy of excellence. Members of the Mfantsipim Old Boys Association (MOBA) demonstrated their ongoing commitment to the school through their participation and financial pledges. The evening concluded with the singing of a school hymn, symbolizing the unity and gratitude of the alumni network as they look toward securing the institution's future for the next 150 years.
