President John Dramani Mahama has commissioned four career diplomats to lead Ghana's missions in Angola, Qatar, Israel, and the United Nations Office in Geneva. During a ceremony held on October 16, 2026, the President tasked the new envoys with advancing the nation’s strategic interests, prioritizing the welfare of Ghanaians abroad, and securing labor mobility agreements. The newly appointed ambassadors include Nana Antwiwaa Dodoo (Angola), Louis Kwame Obeng (Qatar), Evelyn Korantemaa Ofosu-Amable (Israel), and Jedidiah Reuben Adogla, who will serve as the Permanent Representative to the UN Office in Geneva.
In his address to the Geneva envoy, President Mahama emphasized the importance of Ghana's recent re-election to the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) for the 2027-2029 term. He directed Mr. Adogla to utilize this platform to promote the "Accra Reset" agenda, which seeks to reform global health governance and ensure equitable access to health resources for African nations. Regarding Israel, the President instructed Ambassador Ofosu-Amable to uphold Ghana’s long-standing commitment to a two-state solution for the Palestine-Israel conflict while exploring cooperation in agriculture and healthcare.
The President further charged Nana Antwiwaa Dodoo to work closely with Angolan authorities on the issue of reparatory justice for the trafficking of enslaved Africans, noting the shared history between the two nations. This collaboration is particularly vital as Ghana prepares for its upcoming chairmanship of the African Union in 2027. For the mission in Qatar, Ambassador Louis Kwame Obeng was tasked with strengthening bilateral ties in trade and tourism, with a specific focus on finalizing a labor mobility agreement to protect the rights of Ghanaian workers in the Gulf nation.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, who was praised for his role in the successful UNHRC campaign, noted that the ministry has established clear Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for the new envoys. He highlighted the introduction of a new global database for Ghanaians in the diaspora, designed to streamline consular assistance and ensure that no citizen is left behind. The Minister expressed confidence in the diplomats' ability to navigate complex international relations while maintaining professional accountability and transparency in their respective roles.
