The Ghana Medical Trust Fund (GMTF), popularly known as Mahama Cares, is extending its public sensitisation campaign to the Northern and Upper East regions. Having already conducted outreach in the Western, Central, Greater Accra, and Volta regions, the fund now seeks to broaden its impact in northern Ghana. The initiative is designed to enhance public understanding of the fund's mandate, which focuses on providing financial support for specialized healthcare and promoting the early detection of chronic non-communicable diseases.
The tour will focus on educating citizens about eligibility for patient support and the critical importance of early diagnosis, particularly for conditions like cancer. By bringing together regional authorities, traditional leaders, health professionals, and civil society organizations, the GMTF aims to create a unified approach to tackling healthcare challenges. These sessions provide a forum to discuss local health needs and identify sustainable solutions for improving access to specialized medical services that were previously out of reach for many families.
Addressing the financial challenges associated with severe health conditions, the Fund's Administrator, Mrs. Adjoa Obuobia Darko-Opoku, emphasized the principle that financial difficulties should not prevent anyone from receiving life-saving treatment. The campaign highlights the heavy economic burden chronic illnesses place on households and the necessity for coordinated social interventions. During the tour, the GMTF will also work to identify specific regional gaps in healthcare delivery, such as shortages of medical equipment or a lack of resident specialists in underserved areas.
As the sensitisation activities move forward, the fund remains committed to improving patient outcomes through increased awareness and streamlined access to support. By collaborating with various stakeholders across the Northern and Upper East regions, the GMTF hopes to ensure that all eligible Ghanaians are aware of the assistance available to them. This tour represents a key step in the fund's ongoing efforts to ensure that specialized healthcare is accessible to all, regardless of their financial status or geographic location.
