Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has confirmed that the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) will lead the monitoring of the government’s ambitious “New Economy” programme. Announced by President John Dramani Mahama, the initiative is anchored by a US$10 billion investment plan designed to transition Ghana beyond economic stabilization toward a focus on aggressive production, job creation, and wealth generation. Full details of the programme and its investment framework are set to be unveiled during the upcoming 2027 budget presentation in November, marking a critical milestone in the administration's economic strategy.
Complementing this national vision, state institutions are reporting significant progress in digital service delivery and logistical modernization. The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, revealed that Ghana Post has successfully delivered 190,781 passports directly to applicants' homes since the inception of its doorstep service in May 2025. In the first seven months of 2026 alone, over 85,000 deliveries were completed, supported by a fleet expansion of 41 motorbikes and five pickup vehicles. This efficiency has earned Ghana Post the EMS Silver performance status, making Ghana the only African country currently in this elite category.
At the local level, the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) is aligning with this modernization drive by announcing a total transition from traditional static billboards to digital advertising boards starting in 2027. Mayor Richard Ofori Boadi Agyemang stated that the initiative aims to enhance the aesthetic appeal of the city’s major corridors—including the Central Business District and Airport Roundabout—while streamlining advertising regulations. The KMA plans to reduce the overall number of advertising boards, enforcing strict guidelines on design and placement while removing aging or non-compliant structures that have failed to meet fee obligations.
The private sector is also playing a pivotal role in supporting state-led humanitarian and economic efforts. Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa disclosed that Ibrahim Mahama’s Engineers and Planners Limited contributed GH¢16 million toward the GH¢49.72 million emergency evacuation of 1,900 Ghanaians from South Africa. This collaboration between the government and indigenous businesses underscores a broader trend of public-private synergy as the nation prepares for the full rollout of the New Economy agenda. With the upcoming budget set to define the next phase of growth, these developments reflect a multifaceted approach to institutional reform and economic expansion.
