The Member of Parliament for Keta, Kwame Dzudzorli Gakpey, has announced a series of significant infrastructure developments currently underway within the Keta Municipality, aimed at addressing critical gaps in healthcare, education, and transport. Speaking during the commissioning of a newly constructed classroom block at Atiavi Glime on October 5, 2023, the lawmaker highlighted the ongoing commitment to improving the living standards of his constituents. The projects are strategically designed to enhance the delivery of essential services and foster economic growth by improving local connectivity.
Among the primary focuses of this developmental drive is the expansion of healthcare infrastructure. Mr. Gakpey revealed that two Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds are currently under construction. These facilities are not limited to clinical space but also include dedicated accommodations for nurses, an essential addition intended to ensure that healthcare workers can reside within the communities they serve. This move is expected to drastically reduce response times for medical emergencies and provide more consistent maternal and primary health care to rural residents in the municipality.
In addition to healthcare, the education sector is receiving substantial investment through the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund). Several educational facilities are being built across the municipality to provide conducive learning environments for students. The MP emphasized that providing modern classrooms is a cornerstone of his agenda to empower the youth through quality education. Furthermore, infrastructure development extends to the transport sector, as Mr. Gakpey confirmed he is actively engaging with the Minister for Roads to fast-track road improvements. These road projects are vital for linking farming communities to market centers, thereby boosting the local economy and facilitating easier movement for residents.
These initiatives represent a holistic approach to community development in Keta. By integrating health, education, and road infrastructure, the MP aims to create a resilient social framework that supports long-term prosperity. As these projects move toward completion, the focus remains on ensuring that the infrastructure is maintained and that the benefits reach the most vulnerable members of society. The ongoing collaboration between the legislative office and various government ministries serves as a blueprint for localized development that aligns with broader goals of decentralization and service accessibility.
