The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested three men suspected of being members of an outlaw motorcycle gang that has been terrorizing residents in parts of Kumasi. The suspects, identified as Sharif Mahmud, 23, Abdallah Karim, 25, and James Alena, 25, were apprehended during a targeted midnight operation on November 1, 2026. The group is accused of creating widespread insecurity in the Breman-Kronum-Suame enclave through violent attacks and illegal activities.
According to police reports, the arrests took place around 1:40 a.m. in Suame following investigations into the gang's operations. The suspects are alleged to have engaged in illegal motorcycle racing, effectively taking over public roads and obstructing traffic. Beyond the traffic violations, the gang is accused of launching coordinated attacks on pedestrians and robbing residents of their valuables during the late-night hours.
The three suspects have been granted police inquiry bail while investigations continue. However, their formal appearance in court has been delayed due to the ongoing nationwide strike by the Judicial Service Association of Ghana (JUSAG). Police authorities have indicated that they are preparing their case to ensure the suspects face the full rigors of the law once the courts resume normal operations.
While the three men are in custody, several other members of the gang managed to evade arrest during the police swoop and remain at large. The Ashanti Regional Police Command has intensified efforts to track down these fleeing suspects and has appealed to the public for any information that could lead to their capture. Residents in the affected areas are urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities as the police work to restore order and safety to the community.
