The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested three suspects, including two Nigerian nationals, for their involvement in a criminal syndicate that targeted bank customers in Kumasi. The suspects—identified as Aboy Promise, Favour Uwalaka, and Kingsley, also known as KC—were apprehended following a special police operation at a hotel where they were lodged. The arrests come after a string of reported thefts involving individuals who had recently withdrawn significant sums from local financial institutions.
According to police investigations, the syndicate's modus operandi involved monitoring banking halls to identify customers making large cash withdrawals. Once a target was identified, the suspects would trail the victim to their next destination. Utilizing a master key, the group would break into the victims' parked vehicles to steal the cash and other valuables. During the operation on October 31, 2026, officers recovered GH₵1,600 in cash, several mobile phones, a motorbike, and the master key used in the break-ins.
The suspects have reportedly confessed to multiple robberies within the region. In one notable incident on October 27, 2026, the gang allegedly stole GH₵15,000 from a victim shortly after they had completed a bank transaction. The police noted that the syndicate's activities had become a growing concern for residents and the business community in the Ashanti regional capital, prompting the targeted intelligence-led raid.
While three members of the gang are currently in custody assisting with investigations, a fourth accomplice identified as Chinedu, also known as Alhaji, remains at large. The police have launched a manhunt for him and are urging the public to provide any information that could lead to his capture. Authorities have also advised bank customers to remain highly vigilant, secure their vehicles properly, and report any suspicious individuals loitering around banking premises.
