The 2026 Kosmos Innovation Centre (KIC) AgriTech Challenge Pro has officially reached a significant milestone as participating teams delivered their first round of pitches. This initiative, aimed at empowering young Ghanaian entrepreneurs, focuses on developing innovative solutions to address challenges across the country’s agricultural and food value chains. By providing a platform for creative problem-solving, the challenge seeks to modernize Ghana’s agricultural landscape and enhance food security through technology-driven entrepreneurship.
Participating teams, including Food Resilience Ltd, Kebab Masters, and SheaTech Innovations, have already benefited from an intensive regimen of structured training, coaching, and professional mentorship. These resources are designed to guide the teams through the critical phases of product development and market readiness. The program operates under the umbrella of the Mastercard Foundation’s Initiative for Youth in Agricultural Transformation (IYAT), which emphasizes the practical transformation of raw ideas into viable, sustainable businesses that can generate meaningful employment for the youth.
Executive Director of KIC, Benjamin Gyan-Kesse, emphasized the organization’s unwavering commitment to supporting young innovators as they navigate the complex journey of building sustainable enterprises. He noted that the AgriTech Challenge Pro is specifically structured to help these entrepreneurs overcome common barriers to entry in the agricultural sector, such as lack of technical expertise and limited access to market networks. By bridging these gaps, KIC is fostering a new generation of business leaders who are equipped to drive economic growth through agricultural innovation.
As the 2026 competition progresses, the focus will shift toward scaling these nascent businesses and preparing them for long-term commercial success. The initiative reflects a broader strategy to reposition agriculture as a high-potential sector for young professionals, moving away from traditional methods toward a technology-centered approach. The success of these teams is expected to set a precedent for future innovations, ensuring that Ghana remains at the forefront of agricultural transformation in the sub-region.
