A Kia Rhino truck transporting a significant load of household appliances was engulfed by fire on the Apedwa-Kibi road in the Eastern Region on Tuesday, October 8. The incident, which occurred near the Amanfrom community, resulted in the total destruction of goods valued at approximately GH₵800,000. Despite the extensive property damage, all occupants of the vehicle, including the driver and passengers, managed to escape the blaze unharmed.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) was alerted to the emergency early in the morning. Firefighters from the Kibi Fire Station were dispatched to the scene and arrived promptly to battle the flames. According to official reports, the fire crew successfully brought the situation under control and completely extinguished the fire within approximately one hour of their arrival. Their swift intervention prevented the fire from spreading further or causing potential hazards to other road users on the busy highway.
While the financial loss is substantial, the lack of casualties has been noted as a fortunate outcome of the incident. The cargo consisted of various household appliances and valuable items that were being transported when the fire broke out. Officials from the GNFS have initiated a formal investigation to determine the exact cause of the blaze, which remains unknown at this stage. This incident highlights the critical role of prompt emergency response in mitigating the impact of road-based disasters.
