Joseph Owusu: CCTV captures suspects dumping body in the Bronx

Surveillance footage has emerged showing the moment suspects abandoned a duffel bag containing the body of 24-year-old Joseph Owusu at a dumpsite in the Bronx, New York. Owusu, a Ghanaian computer science student and musician, had been missing for two weeks before his remains were discovered by a scrap collector searching through refuse. The video, originally aired by ABC7, depicts two men removing a large black duffel bag from the boot of a white saloon car under the cover of night.

The New York Police Department (NYPD) is utilizing the surveillance footage to identify the individuals involved in the disposal of the body. While the primary footage captures two adult men dragging the bag into the dump site, additional analysis suggests a third person may have also been present during the incident. The discovery has shocked the local community, and an official autopsy is currently pending to determine the exact cause of Owusu’s death.

Owusu was a multifaceted individual who served as a church organist and worked as a caregiver for people with disabilities while pursuing his higher education. His brother, Kojo Yeboah, has made an emotional appeal for justice, describing Owusu as a beloved family member whose loss has left them devastated. The family is urging anyone with information regarding the white vehicle or the suspects to contact the authorities immediately.

The tragedy has prompted a significant diplomatic response, with Ghana’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations calling for a rigorous investigation into the circumstances of the death. Deputy Permanent Representative Ben Dotsei Malor recently visited Owusu’s family to express the condolences of President John Mahama and the Ghanaian government. This incident marks the second murder of a Ghanaian national in New York within a single week, following the fatal shooting of 15-year-old Javits Badu Nkansah Frimpong.
