The Transport Minister, Joseph Bukari Nikpe, has called on the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) to leverage its 20-year history to enhance service excellence and ensure long-term financial sustainability. Speaking during the company’s 20th-anniversary celebrations, the Minister emphasized the need for the GACL to move beyond its past achievements and focus on becoming a fiscally robust entity. This directive aligns with the government's strategic vision to transform Ghana into the leading aviation hub within the West African sub-region. Nikpe acknowledged the vital role the GACL has played in the development of the nation’s transport infrastructure since its establishment. He highlighted the company’s success in improving domestic air connectivity and its contribution to the growth of the tourism and trade sectors. According to the Minister, the infrastructure projects spearheaded by the company have laid a critical foundation for national development, yet the current global economic landscape requires a renewed focus on operational efficiency and revenue mobilization. To achieve the government's ambition of a regional aviation hub, the Minister tasked the GACL leadership with focusing on three key pillars: improved air connectivity, sustainable infrastructure, and an enhanced passenger experience. He noted that the quality of service provided at Ghana’s airports must meet international standards to attract more airlines and passengers. The Ministry of Transport pledged to continue its oversight role, ensuring that the GACL receives the necessary policy support to implement these strategic improvements. As the GACL enters its third decade, the focus is shifting toward financial independence and the ability to fund future expansion without heavy reliance on the central government. The Minister's charge serves as a roadmap for the company to modernize its operations and integrate innovative solutions into its management practices. The 20th-anniversary milestone marks a transition period where the GACL is expected to play an even more prominent role in driving Ghana’s economic integration with the rest of the world.
