Dr. John Abdulai Jinapor, the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, has issued a stern warning to the chief executives and managing directors of public energy institutions, stating they will face personal consequences for failing to deliver results. Speaking at the 2026 Energy Sector Performance Review Retreat, the Minister underscored the government's commitment to accountability, making it clear that non-performance will no longer be tolerated within the sector. He insisted that the public expects tangible results from these institutions to justify their operations.
The Minister's remarks follow the recent government dissolution of nine boards across various sectors, three of which were within the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition. Jinapor emphasized that these actions demonstrate a significant shift toward stricter oversight and that there will be "no protection for failure" for those leading these agencies. He informed the gathered agency heads that their tenure depends entirely on their ability to meet institutional targets and improve service delivery in a transparent manner.
Beyond general performance, Jinapor called for greater transparency and strict adherence to legal standards, particularly regarding procurement processes. He urged agencies to be honest in reporting both their achievements and their challenges, ensuring that legal compliance is maintained to prevent administrative lapses. By prioritizing efficiency and legal integrity, the Minister aims to eliminate the bottlenecks that have historically hampered the sector's growth and financial stability.
The ultimate objective of this push for accountability is the creation of a reliable, affordable, and sustainable energy sector to drive Ghana’s economic transformation under President John Mahama. Minister Jinapor reiterated that the performance of these public institutions is central to the nation's broader development goals. He concluded that his ministry will continue to monitor institutional outputs closely to ensure that the energy sector remains a robust pillar of the national economy.
