Mavis Hawa Koomson, the National Women’s Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has called for an urgent and transparent investigation into the alleged sexual abuse of 19 students at Obuasi Senior High Technical School. Koomson is demanding decisive action from the Ghana Police Service regarding the school’s headmaster, Zakaria Abdulai, following reports that highlight significant failures in the institution's student protective systems.
The allegations have sparked widespread concern regarding the safety and well-being of students within the educational environment. Koomson emphasized that the current safeguards are insufficient and called on the Ministry of Education to immediately strengthen protective measures across schools nationwide. She maintained that the scale of the alleged abuse—involving nearly twenty students—requires a thorough and public inquiry to ensure that all perpetrators are held accountable and that similar incidents are prevented in the future.
In addition to her calls for an investigation, Koomson announced a peaceful demonstration scheduled for November 6, 2026, to demand justice for the victims. The planned protest aims to maintain national attention on the case and ensure that law enforcement and educational regulators provide a swift and fair resolution. The intervention by the NPP Women’s Organiser underscores the mounting pressure on authorities to address safety lapses within the country's senior high school system.
