The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has strongly refuted allegations from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) regarding the state of the Free Senior High School (SHS) program. Addressing claims that the initiative is failing and that students across the country are facing acute food shortages, the Minister insisted that schools are well-stocked and operational. He described the assertions made by the NPP flagbearer as politically motivated, urging the public to verify the current status of the educational sector for themselves.
According to the Minister, the government has established robust funding mechanisms under the leadership of President John Mahama to ensure that the nutritional needs of students are consistently met without interruption. Beyond the provision of daily meals, Iddrisu highlighted a significant $300 million investment aimed at enhancing school infrastructure across the nation. This capital injection is intended to accommodate the growing student population and improve the overall learning environment within the SHS system as part of a broader educational strategy.
In addition to addressing food security and infrastructure, Minister Iddrisu acknowledged the ongoing concerns regarding a strike by teachers. He assured stakeholders that the government is actively engaging with the relevant unions to resolve the industrial action and minimize any potential disruptions to the academic calendar. The Minister concluded by calling on parents and students to speak out about their actual experiences, asserting that the government's commitment to the Free SHS program remains unwavering despite the claims of political opponents.
