The Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) marked four decades of operations with a 40th-anniversary dinner and industry awards night on October 23, 2026. The event served as a platform to honor shipping lines, clearing agents, and past leadership for their contributions to Ghana's maritime success. During the ceremony, Director-General Major-General Paul Seidu Tanye-Kulono emphasized that the authority’s growth over the past 40 years was built on the foundation of collective effort from management, staff, and private-sector stakeholders. He urged the award recipients to maintain high standards to ensure the authority remains competitive in the evolving global logistics landscape.
Speaking at the event, the Minister for Transport, Joseph Bukari Nikpe, outlined six strategic priorities aimed at establishing Ghana as the preferred trade and logistics hub in West Africa. These priorities include the adoption of integrated digital systems, improved cargo handling, and the reduction of delays within the port system. The Minister also highlighted the necessity of enhancing multimodal transport connectivity and regional trade integration to bolster the country's status as a regional gateway. He called for sustained collaboration between the GPHA and its partners to implement these changes effectively.
Board Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia further underscored the importance of innovation and efficiency in sustaining the progress of Ghana’s ports. The celebration also recognized the historical contributions of former sector ministers and board members who shaped the authority's trajectory since its inception. By honoring both past achievements and future ambitions, the GPHA aims to strengthen its partnerships across the logistics value chain to drive national economic development through more competitive and sustainable port operations.
