The Ghana Publishing Company Limited (GPCL) has reported a significant financial turnaround, achieving a profit after tax of GH₵16.96 million for the 2025 financial year. This represents a 661.36% increase compared to the GH₵2.23 million recorded in 2024. Managing Director Nana Kwasi Boaitey announced the results during the Government Accountability Series in Accra, noting that total revenue rose by nearly 20% to GH₵72.85 million. The company's operating profit also saw a substantial surge, rising from GH₵2.95 million to GH₵19.58 million following management reforms implemented in early 2025.
Mr. Boaitey attributed the growth to the implementation of a 24-hour operational model, which aligns with President John Mahama's vision for a 24-hour economy. This shift-based system has drastically improved service delivery, reducing the processing time for regular gazette applications from eight weeks down to three weeks. Premium services that previously took a week are now completed within three days. Additionally, the company restructured its departments and reduced staffing levels to enhance overall operational efficiency and eliminate redundancies.
To further boost production capacity, GPCL is investing €1.5 million in modern security printing equipment. This investment is designed to allow the state-owned firm to compete effectively in the printing industry, specifically for specialized documents such as chequebooks and other high-security materials. Financial discipline has also been a priority, with the company partnering with Consolidated Bank Ghana to install banking facilities at its business centre. This move ensures direct payments into company accounts, successfully curbing previous revenue leakages and the sale of fraudulent gazettes.
Looking toward future sustainability, a Cabinet decision has been made to allocate 20% of all government printing work to GPCL. The company is also eyeing opportunities within the government's free textbook printing programme. Despite the record profits, the company continues to manage a GH₵22 million legacy VAT debt owed to the Ghana Revenue Authority from previous years. President Mahama is expected to further support the company's modernization efforts by inaugurating a new digital press in January 2026.
