Ghana’s creative and entertainment industry is experiencing a significant surge in activity, marked by high-profile award ceremonies, international fashion showcases, and ambitious world record attempts. From the recognition of top-tier talent at the 7th Ghana Arts and Entertainment Awards to the upcoming 16th edition of Rhythms On Da Runway, the sector continues to demonstrate its pivotal role in the national economy and cultural identity. These events highlight a maturing industry that is increasingly focused on inclusivity, professional recognition, and sustainable growth through financial empowerment.
The 7th Ghana Arts and Entertainment Awards recently celebrated excellence within the creative space, crowning Jeneral Ntatia as "Man of the Year" and Mabel Okyere as "Woman of the Year." The ceremony also honored veteran figure Cecilia Marfo for her enduring contributions to the industry. CEO Cecilia Gyaase Konamah noted that while the awards are essential for promoting creativity, the organizers still face significant hurdles regarding logistics and sponsorship. Despite these challenges, the creative economy is finding new avenues for support; for instance, Apprise Music & Media recently secured vital grant funding through the Orange Inspire Creative Ultimate Pitch 2026, signaling a growing interest from investors in Ghanaian music entrepreneurship.
In the realm of fashion and cultural diplomacy, Rhythms On Da Runway (RODR) is scheduled to return on November 28 at the Palms Convention Centre. This year’s edition, themed "UNBOUND," is described as Africa’s largest cultural exposé and aims to dismantle traditional fashion norms. Organized by 1957 Events, the showcase will feature an inclusive lineup of models from diverse backgrounds and abilities, highlighting adaptive fashion and the creativity of the African diaspora. The event will also host the Black Star Awards to recognize influential figures who have contributed to Africa’s development and creative landscape.
Looking further into the 2026 calendar, the industry’s focus on skill development is exemplified by makeup artist and entrepreneur Roselyn Mantey. Building on her 2024 success with the longest makeup marathon, Mantey is preparing for a new Guinness World Record attempt on October 21, 2026, at the UPSA Auditorium. She plans to teach over 1,000 participants to apply makeup simultaneously, an initiative that has already attracted nearly 4,000 entries. By focusing on community involvement and vocational discipline, Mantey’s project underscores a broader movement within the creative sector to empower young Ghanaians through entrepreneurship and standardized skill acquisition.
