The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) is entering a critical phase of its personnel cycle, announcing a three-day Documentation and Body Selection Exercise for the 2026/2027 enlistment intake. Scheduled to take place from September 28 to 30, 2026, this exercise follows the closure of online applications on September 23. Qualified applicants will receive text message notifications with specific instructions for reporting to designated centers. The Northern Sector exercise will be held at the 4 Infantry Battalion, Uaddara Barracks in Kumasi, while Southern Sector candidates are to report to Nicholson Stadium at the Air Force Base in Accra. GAF officials have emphasized that strict adherence to these instructions is mandatory for all prospective recruits.
This new recruitment drive coincides with the successful completion of training for a fresh cohort of soldiers. At the Army Recruit Training School in Shai Hills, a passing-out parade was recently held for 646 recruits from the Basic Infantry Training Course. Out of the 650 individuals who initially began the rigorous program, four were unable to complete the course for various reasons. During the ceremony, outstanding recruits were recognized for their excellence in academic work and fieldcraft, marking the beginning of their official military careers under the current administration of President John Mahama.
High-ranking military officials used the graduation ceremony to issue stern warnings regarding professional conduct, particularly concerning the use of social media and the military uniform. The Ghana Army cautioned the new soldiers that maintaining the reputation of the GAF is paramount. This emphasis on discipline was personified in a viral interaction where a senior officer, Entsie, was filmed warning his newly graduated brother, Private Entsie, against using their family connection to circumvent military protocols. The senior officer's firm declaration that he would "deal with" his brother if family ties were used as an excuse for indiscipline underscored the institution's commitment to meritocracy and hierarchy.
Beyond recruitment and training, the GAF is also managing significant leadership transitions. On September 25, 2026, the military held a formal send-off parade to honor eight retiring Generals for their years of exceptional service and contributions to national security. These concurrent events—the induction of hundreds of new soldiers, the rigorous selection process for the next intake, and the retirement of seasoned leadership—highlight the GAF's ongoing commitment to maintaining a disciplined and well-structured force capable of serving the Republic of Ghana.
