The Ghana Education Service (GES) has launched a formal investigation into the alleged assault of a final-year student at Techiman Senior High School by two teachers. The incident, which was captured in a widely circulated video, has sparked significant public outrage across the country. Following a directive from the Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, the service is scrutinising the conduct of the staff members involved to determine the appropriate disciplinary measures and ensure accountability.
The two teachers at the centre of the investigation have been identified as Mr. Jerry Jones Owusu Bekoe and Mr. Adusa Ameyaw. The footage of the encounter shows the educators allegedly stepping on the head of the student, Seedorf Abeka Ampah, in a violent manner. Following the incident, the student was taken for medical treatment. The GES has since confirmed that he is recovering well and continues to receive necessary care while the administrative process unfolds.
A disciplinary committee has been convened to conduct a preliminary hearing into the matter. The GES has assured the public that it will enforce strict sanctions based on the final findings of the committee's investigation to maintain professional standards and serve as a deterrent. While the probe is ongoing, education authorities have urged the public to remain calm, emphasizing their commitment to ensuring a safe and secure learning environment for all students in the country.
