The Ghana Education Service (GES) has scheduled November 16, 2026, as the payment date for outstanding salary arrears for staff promoted in 2025. This announcement follows a period of delay that left many educators waiting for their adjusted compensation. The GES confirmed it is working closely with the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD) to ensure that the processing of these funds proceeds without further hindrance.
The delay in payments was primarily attributed to the temporary closure of the CAGD payment system. The system was shut down during the October salary processing cycle, which prevented the necessary data input for the promotion arrears. According to a notice issued on October 27, 2026, the system is scheduled to reopen on October 28, 2026. This reopening will allow administrators to input the outstanding amounts for the affected staff members in preparation for the mid-November payout.
In addition to the upcoming payments, the GES has committed to resolving issues arising from previous transactions. A letter signed by Prof. Smile Dzisi indicated that discrepancies identified during the October 16 payment cycle would be addressed and corrected. This move aims to rectify errors for those who may have received incorrect amounts or were missed during the earlier disbursement phase. Regional Directors across the country have been instructed to notify all affected personnel to ensure they are updated on the resolution process.
The scale of the pending payments remains significant, with approximately 28,000 teachers yet to receive their arrears. This follow-up action comes after 52,000 other staff members successfully received their payments. The Ministry of Education has acknowledged the challenges faced by teachers during this period, expressing regret over the delays. The November 16 deadline represents a critical milestone in clearing the backlog of 2025 promotion placements, providing much-needed financial relief to thousands of education workers nationwide.
