GES Regional Conference: Educational Accountants Urged to Strengthen Accountability Systems in Bolgatanga

Educational accountants within the Ghana Education Service (GES) have been called upon to strictly adhere to institutional management systems to ensure transparency and effective service delivery. During a three-day regional conference held in Bolgatanga, the Upper East Regional Capital, officials emphasized that maintaining the integrity of established frameworks is critical for the long-term stability and performance of the education sector. Addressing the participants, Mr. Jomo Atariboro, the Regional Accountant and Patron of the Educational Accountants Association of Ghana, warned against excessive interference in established institutional structures. He noted that undermining these systems can lead to a breakdown in discipline and negatively impact the welfare of workers. Mr. Atariboro stressed that accountants must remain steadfast in their application of GES regulations to prevent the weakening of the service's management capacity. Supporting this view, the Regional Education Director, Mr. Abdul Razak Korah, highlighted the necessity of enhanced collaboration between accountants and school management to overcome institutional challenges and boost overall performance.

The conference was well-received by attendees, who described the refresher training as a vital tool for navigating the complexities of modern educational administration. Madam Akantuesiba Evelyn, representing OLL Girls Senior High School, noted that the sessions provided practical insights into handling auditors and addressing internal institutional hurdles more effectively. However, participants also took the opportunity to advocate for increased financial support for such professional development programs. They pointed out that the rising costs of hosting and attending these workshops necessitate a more robust funding model to ensure that educational staff remain updated on best practices in financial management.
