Frema Adunyame, founder of the Adunyame Foundation, has successfully concluded a month-long breast cancer awareness and screening initiative across the Greater Accra Region. The campaign, which combined public health education with clinical outreach, aimed to increase early detection rates and demystify breast health among underserved populations. Adunyame announced the completion of the project by highlighting the positive reception from various communities and the critical role played by healthcare partners throughout the month.
Working in collaboration with the Hadassah Network Outreach, the foundation focused its efforts on high-traffic commercial hubs and residential areas, including Ofankor and the Kasoa New Market. The outreach specifically targeted market women and young girls, groups that often face barriers to regular medical check-ups due to demanding work schedules or limited access to preventive care information. Participants received preliminary screening services and participated in educational sessions focused on self-examination techniques and the importance of seeking professional medical consultation at the earliest sign of symptoms.
Reflecting on the campaign's impact, Adunyame expressed gratitude to the sponsors and community partners whose support facilitated the logistics of the month-long exercise. She noted that the high level of participation during the outreach underscored a significant, ongoing need for accessible health education regarding breast cancer in Ghana. Moving forward, the foundation emphasized its commitment to sustaining these efforts and ensuring that the momentum generated during this campaign leads to more frequent and comprehensive health screenings for women in the region.
