The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has directed the Franko Herbal Centre to immediately withdraw its product, Franko Herbal Mixture, from the Ghanaian market. This regulatory action follows laboratory assessments that revealed the product is dangerously adulterated, posing significant health risks to consumers. The directive covers all batches of the herbal preparation currently available for sale across the country to prevent further public exposure.
In addition to the recall, the FDA has taken decisive enforcement action by shutting down the company's manufacturing facility located in Jacobu, within the Ashanti Region. This closure is intended to halt the production of the compromised mixture while the Authority conducts further investigations into the source and nature of the contamination. Regulatory officers have already begun confiscating existing stocks of the product from various distribution points and the primary manufacturing site to ensure they are permanently removed from the supply chain.
The Authority has confirmed that all seized items are slated for safe disposal under supervised conditions. Consumers who have purchased Franko Herbal Mixture are strongly advised to stop using it immediately and return any remaining stock to the nearest FDA office or the point of purchase. The FDA remains committed to monitoring the market to ensure full compliance with this recall order and continues to urge the public to be vigilant regarding the safety of herbal medicines.
