The Minister of Labour, Employment and Job Creation, Emmanuel Agyekum, has officially entered into a strategic partnership with the Alabuga Special Economic Zone in Russia to provide extensive employment opportunities for Ghanaian citizens. This Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) marks a significant step in the government's efforts to facilitate international labour migration and secure industrial roles for the domestic workforce on a global scale. Under the terms of the agreement, Ghana will supply personnel for over 75,000 positions across a wide range of manufacturing and industrial sectors.
The agreement was formalised during a signing ceremony between Minister Agyekum and E.R. Safuillin, the director of the Alabuga Special Economic Zone. The Alabuga zone is a major industrial hub in Russia, hosting 48 different companies that are now expected to integrate Ghanaian workers into their operations. These roles are focused on technical and manufacturing disciplines, aiming to utilise and enhance the skills of the Ghanaian labour force within a highly structured industrial environment.
This partnership is designed to establish clear and formal pathways for Ghanaians seeking to work abroad, ensuring that recruitment processes are organised and protected under official state agreements. By collaborating with a major economic zone like Alabuga, the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Job Creation aims to reduce informal migration and instead promote professional development through high-level industrial exposure. The initiative is expected to provide a substantial boost to employment figures while strengthening bilateral economic ties between Ghana and Russia.
