Eight people have died following a tragic road accident involving two passenger buses at Azuletti on the Elubo-Takoradi Highway. The incident occurred on the evening of October 29, 2026, when an Ivorian passenger bus collided with a stationary Burkinabè bus. Seven victims were pronounced dead at the scene, while another individual succumbed to injuries later at a local hospital.
According to reports from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the crash happened around 7:26 p.m. The Ivorian bus reportedly rammed into the rear of the Burkinabè vehicle, which was parked and blocking a lane on the highway. Firefighters arrived promptly at the scene to conduct rescue operations, successfully extricating 21 injured passengers from the wreckage. These survivors were immediately transported to nearby medical facilities for urgent treatment.
Preliminary investigations by emergency services suggest that speeding on the part of the Ivorian bus driver may have been a significant factor in the collision. The impact of the crash was severe enough to cause immediate fatalities and extensive damage to both vehicles. The bodies of the deceased have since been handed over to the Ghana Police Service for further processing and identification.
Local authorities and the GNFS have used this incident to reiterate calls for drivers to exercise caution, particularly when navigating highways at night. Further investigations are currently underway to determine the exact circumstances surrounding why the Burkinabè bus was stationary on the road and whether appropriate warning signals were in place at the time of the tragedy.
