Hovis Driving School’s Desmond Tublu Urges Drivers to Cooperate with Police Road Checks for Enhanced Safety
•2 min read•1 source
Desmond Tublu, a road safety expert from Hovis Driving School, has issued a strong appeal to motorists across Ghana to view police road checks as critical safety interventions rather than unnecessary delays. Speaking on the importance of public cooperation, Mr. Tublu emphasized that these routine inspections are strategically designed to identify mechanical faults and prevent potential accidents before they occur. By adhering to police directives, drivers can significantly reduce the risk of on-road emergencies and contribute to a safer transport environment for all road users. To underscore the potential dangers of non-compliance, Mr. Tublu recounted a harrowing near-disaster involving a motorist driving an unregistered vehicle. According to the expert, the driver ignored specific instructions from police officers during a routine check and continued her journey. Shortly thereafter, the vehicle developed a catastrophic fault and caught fire. This incident serves as a stark reminder that police officers often spot visible hazards—such as leaking fluids, smoke, or faulty components—that a driver may overlook from within the cabin. Beyond mere compliance, the road safety advocate stressed the necessity of proactive vehicle maintenance and the possession of essential safety gear. He advised drivers to ensure their vehicles undergo regular professional servicing to detect underlying technical issues. Furthermore, he highlighted that being equipped with functional safety items, particularly fire extinguishers and warning triangles, is non-negotiable for responsible driving. As road traffic accidents remain a concern, Mr. Tublu’s call highlights the vital role that individual responsibility and institutional cooperation play in safeguarding lives on Ghana’s highways.
