The Member of Parliament for Tano South, Charles Asiedu, has distributed essential educational items to 300 newly admitted Senior High School (SHS) students within the Ahafo Region. At a presentation ceremony held in Bechem, the MP provided students with mattresses, chop boxes, exercise books, and other learning materials designed to ease the financial pressure on parents during the transition to secondary education. The gesture is part of a broader effort to ensure that economic barriers do not prevent students from accessing their placements in various senior high schools.
During the event, Mr. Asiedu underscored his commitment to enhancing the quality of education in his constituency. Beyond the material support for students, the MP announced the establishment of a new teachers’ award scheme. This initiative aims to recognize and motivate outstanding educators, acknowledging their critical role in shaping the academic success of the youth. He urged the beneficiaries to capitalize on the opportunity provided to them and pursue excellence in their upcoming academic journeys, noting that education remains the most effective tool for personal and community development.
Adding her voice to the occasion, the Ahafo Regional Minister, Madam Charity Gardiner, cautioned the fresh students against the risks of negative peer influence. She emphasized that the transition to the SHS level comes with increased independence, which requires a high level of self-discipline. Madam Gardiner encouraged the graduates to stay focused on their studies and avoid bad company, noting that their choices today would significantly impact their future potential and career prospects.
The beneficiary students expressed profound gratitude for the MP's intervention, noting that the supplies would significantly reduce the logistical hurdles of starting their new school year. Many pledged to uphold the discipline advocated by the Regional Minister and to remain committed to their academic responsibilities. This collaborative effort between local and regional leadership highlights a consistent regional strategy to improve educational outcomes and ensure that financial constraints do not hinder the progress of talented students in the Ahafo Region.
