The Controlled Food Suppliers Association (CFSA) has deferred its scheduled demonstration at the premises of the Ghana Commodity Exchange following a consultative meeting with the Greater Accra Regional Police Command. The protest, which was originally intended to push for the settlement of outstanding payments for food supplied to the Free Senior High School (SHS) program, was put on hold after the police raised concerns regarding public peace and safety.
The decision to suspend the action came after a meeting held on November 4, 2026, where security officials urged the association to reconsider its timeline. The demonstration was initially slated to take place over a five-day period from November 16 to November 20. Association leadership indicated that the postponement was a gesture of respect for the police's position and the need to maintain order within the capital.
Leadership of the CFSA has, however, clarified that the suspension of the protest is not a withdrawal of their grievances. The group maintains that its members are facing significant financial difficulties due to the government's delay in paying for essential food items delivered to schools across the country. They reiterated that the primary goal remains the immediate settlement of all arrears to ensure the sustainability of their businesses and continued food supply to the education sector.
Moving forward, the CFSA plans to reconvene its leadership to finalize arrangements and determine a new date for the demonstration if their demands remain unmet. The association has urged its members to remain calm and steadfast as it continues to engage with the relevant authorities to secure the necessary funds. The group emphasized that they are prepared to resume their picketing actions should the government fail to provide a clear roadmap for payment in the coming weeks.
