The National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) in the Bono Region has commended the construction quality of the 9.2-kilometre Sunyani inner ring road project. Funded through the government’s "Big Push" infrastructure initiative, the project is designed to enhance urban mobility and provide a more durable road network for the regional capital. Gabriel Kwame Okyere, the Public Relations Officer for the NRSA in the Bono Region, highlighted the asphaltic works as a standard for regional road projects and noted that the improvements are already transforming the local landscape.
Local contractor Kofi Job Constructions Limited is responsible for the execution of the project. While the total scope covers over nine kilometres, approximately 2.5 kilometres have been fully completed and asphalted to date. The NRSA’s endorsement follows an assessment of these finished sections, which have been noted for their smooth finish and structural integrity. The authority indicated that the high-quality asphalt is expected to reduce vehicle maintenance costs for drivers and significantly improve travel times within Sunyani.
Despite the positive reception of the road quality, officials have raised concerns regarding driver behavior on the new surface. Mr. Okyere issued a stern warning to tricycle riders and other motorists against reckless driving and excessive speeding, which have reportedly increased since the asphalt was laid. The NRSA revealed it has received an increasing number of public complaints concerning dangerous maneuvers on the improved stretches and reminded all road users that superior infrastructure should not be an excuse for disregarding traffic safety laws.
The project is already yielding tangible economic benefits for the surrounding communities beyond improved transportation. According to the NRSA, the upgraded road has acted as a stimulus for local trade, encouraging the growth of small-scale businesses and improving access for customers in the area. By facilitating easier transit for goods and people, the Sunyani inner ring road is fulfilling its role under the Big Push initiative to drive regional economic growth through strategic infrastructure investment.
