Award-winning rapper and filmmaker Big Ghun has launched a nationwide road safety initiative, partnering with BetfoxGhana to distribute more than 3,000 helmets to motorcycle riders. The campaign, which commenced in Ashaiman, seeks to directly address the alarming rise in motorcycle-related accidents and fatalities across the country. By providing essential protective gear, the organisers hope to reduce the severity of injuries and save lives within the riding community.
The initiative is a response to disturbing data from the Ministry of Transport, which revealed that motorcycle-related incidents accounted for nearly 46% of all road fatalities in 2025. During the launch event in Ashaiman, Big Ghun and the BetfoxGhana team presented helmets not only to individual commercial riders but also to the local police department to support their enforcement and safety efforts. The distribution is part of a broader mission to instill a culture of safety and responsibility among both commercial and private motorcycle operators.
Beyond the physical distribution of gear, the campaign emphasises education and awareness regarding road regulations. Big Ghun noted that while a helmet is a simple piece of equipment, its absence can have devastating consequences for families and the national economy. The partnership with BetfoxGhana highlights a growing trend of corporate social responsibility targeting public health and safety issues that disproportionately affect those who rely on motorcycles for their livelihoods.
Following the successful kickoff in the Greater Accra Region, the campaign is scheduled to expand to other regions across Ghana. The organisers intend to continue engaging with local riding unions and law enforcement agencies to ensure that the message of road safety resonates throughout the country. By scaling this effort, Big Ghun and his partners aim to significantly lower the percentage of preventable road deaths and encourage other stakeholders to contribute to Ghana's road safety goals.
