Asokore Mampong Municipal Chief Executive, Ben Abdallah Alhassan, has commissioned a technical assessment to facilitate the construction of a new footbridge at the Aboabo-Airport Roundabout. The directive follows a tragic road accident that resulted in the deaths of four pupils from the Institute of Islamic Studies. The assessment, to be conducted by road engineers, is intended to determine the most feasible design and strategic placement for the infrastructure to ensure the safety of pedestrians and students in the area.
During a visit to offer condolences to the families of the deceased children, Alhassan emphasized that the assembly is prioritizing a permanent solution to the safety risks posed by the busy roundabout. He stated that the technical team will evaluate traffic flow and pedestrian patterns to ensure the proposed footbridge is both functional and durable. In the immediate term, the MCE revealed that the assembly is coordinating with the Municipal Education Directorate to deploy personnel and safety measures that will assist students in crossing the road safely during school hours.
To alleviate the burden on the affected families, the assembly has committed to fully funding the medical expenses for the injured students who survived the accident. These survivors are currently undergoing treatment at the Manhyia Government Hospital. This commitment to both infrastructure development and community welfare reflects the assembly's broader strategy to enhance public safety at critical junctions within the municipality. The project is expected to proceed once the engineering report is finalized and the necessary budgetary allocations are secured.
