The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Asokore Mampong, Ben Abdallah Alhassan, has announced that the assembly will conduct a technical assessment for the construction of a footbridge on the Aboabo-Airport Roundabout. This infrastructure project is being proposed in response to a tragic road accident that resulted in the deaths of four pupils from the Institute of Islamic Studies. The assembly is coordinating with professional road engineers to ensure the proposed design effectively addresses the safety challenges at this busy junction. During a visit to the grieving families of the deceased students, Alhassan expressed his condolences and underscored the importance of technical scrutiny in the planning process. He noted that the assembly’s primary goal is to provide a durable and safe solution for pedestrians, particularly children, who navigate the area daily. Beyond the long-term infrastructure plans, the MCE also committed the assembly to covering the full medical expenses for the injured children currently receiving treatment at the Manhyia Government Hospital. To address immediate safety concerns while the technical assessment and construction planning proceed, the assembly is collaborating with the Municipal Education Directorate. This partnership is focused on deploying interim measures to help students cross the road safely during peak hours. These temporary interventions, combined with the planned footbridge, form part of a broader effort by local authorities to enhance public safety and prevent similar tragedies in the Asokore Mampong Municipality.
