Asanko Gold Ghana Limited has successfully graduated 71 young people from the Amansie South and Amansie West districts following a year-long intensive apprenticeship programme. The initiative was designed to equip local youth with the technical skills required for sustainable employment within the mining sector and other industrial fields. By focusing on practical expertise, the programme aims to bridge the skills gap in the region and improve the livelihoods of community members living near the company’s operations.
The vocational training covered several critical technical disciplines, including welding, electrical work, and mechanical operations. The effectiveness of the programme is already evident, with approximately 40 of the graduates securing full-time employment shortly after completing their training. These graduates have transitioned into roles within the mining industry, demonstrating the direct link between the company's corporate social responsibility efforts and local economic empowerment.
Local authorities and community leaders have praised the initiative, noting its positive impact on the district's economy and its role in reducing youth unemployment. Graduates who participated in the programme expressed gratitude for the opportunity, highlighting how the new skills have significantly enhanced their employability and provided a clear path toward professional growth. This initiative serves as a model for how mining companies can foster community development by investing in human capital.
