Fr. Arturo Sosa, SJ, the Superior General of the Society of Jesus, paid a working visit to the Arrupe Jesuit Institute (AJI) in Accra on October 13, 2026. The visit served as a platform for the global head of the Jesuit order to engage with the leadership of the institute regarding its ongoing mission to address pressing social challenges across Ghana and the wider African continent through the lens of Catholic Social Teaching.
During the briefing, the institute’s leadership outlined a multifaceted approach to social research and public engagement. Discussions centered on the AJI’s core initiatives, which include migration research, environmental ecology, and youth formation. Central to the meeting was the presentation of the institute's new Strategic Plan for 2026-2029, which prioritizes advocacy and youth empowerment as the primary drivers for social change in the region over the coming years.
Fr. Sosa commended the institute’s efforts and encouraged its leadership to aggressively pursue financial sustainability to ensure the long-term impact of its projects. Since its establishment in November 2018, the Arrupe Jesuit Institute has sought to bridge the gap between academic research and practical social action. By focusing on the new strategic pillars and securing independent funding, the institute aims to solidify its role as a key contributor to social justice and sustainable development in Africa.
