Alberta Sunu Amoah has been elected as the chairperson for the Weija-Gbawe constituency of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). In a poll of party delegates, Amoah secured 536 votes, comfortably defeating her closest rival by a margin of 149 votes. Her election marks a transition in the local party leadership as the NDC seeks to consolidate its grassroots support in the Greater Accra Region.
Following the announcement of the results, Amoah expressed her gratitude to the delegates for their confidence in her leadership. She characterized her victory as a collective win for service, unity, and progress within the constituency. In a call for reconciliation, she reached out to her fellow contestants, emphasizing that the internal poll was a necessary democratic exercise intended to strengthen the party’s internal structures rather than divide them.
A key component of Amoah's platform is the introduction of a dedicated welfare system for constituency members. She pledged to establish a support framework that would provide assistance to party activists in times of need, ensuring that those who work for the party are supported by it. This initiative is designed to foster a sense of belonging and loyalty among the rank and file, which she views as essential for local mobilization.
The new chairperson’s primary focus is now shifting toward the national political landscape. Amoah highlighted her commitment to leading a unified front to win the Weija-Gbawe parliamentary seat from the New Patriotic Party (NPP). She urged all party members to set aside their differences and work collaboratively to ensure a decisive victory for the NDC in the constituency, reinforcing the party's presence and influence in the region.
