Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin has inaugurated a new Audit Committee for the Parliamentary Service, tasking the body with the rigorous oversight of the institution’s financial expenditures. The committee, which is chaired by Conrad Z. Dumbah, is expected to ensure high levels of accountability and transparency to maintain the credibility of the legislature. During the inauguration, the Speaker underscored that Parliament must lead by example in managing its own resources as it continues its constitutional role of demanding accountability from the Executive branch.
The newly established committee consists of experts drawn from various audit and accounting institutions. Beyond oversight, the members are mandated to oversee the implementation of recommendations found in internal audit reports and to identify opportunities for enhancing value for money in Parliament's operations. Speaker Bagbin encouraged the committee members to execute their mandate without fear or favor, assuring them of full institutional support and cooperation from management.
Bagbin also recognized the work of the outgoing committee, urging the new members to learn from previous successes to further strengthen the institution’s financial systems. This inauguration is part of a strategic effort to improve public financial management within the Parliamentary Service. By reinforcing its internal auditing mechanisms, Parliament aims to ensure that its fiscal conduct remains beyond reproach while it scrutinizes the spending of other state agencies.
