The Minister of Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, has issued a stern warning to contractors executing projects under the government’s ‘Big Push’ infrastructure programme to uphold high engineering standards. Speaking during an inspection of the Sunyani Outer Ring Road project in the Bono Region, the Minister emphasised that the availability of funding should not be an excuse for compromised quality. He stressed that the longevity of the new infrastructure is a non-negotiable priority for the current administration to ensure the state receives value for its investment.
The Sunyani Outer Ring Road, a flagship project under the initiative launched by President John Mahama, is being constructed by Kofi Job Company Limited. The project is designed to improve regional connectivity and facilitate economic growth by linking several communities to major highways. During his visit, Mr. Agbodza expressed satisfaction with the progress and noted that the work appears to be ahead of its scheduled completion date. However, he reiterated that adherence to technical specifications is mandatory to avoid the need for premature and costly repairs in the future.
Mr. Agbodza highlighted that the government’s broader objective is to build durable road networks that support long-term national development. By ensuring strict compliance with all technical requirements during the construction phase, the Ministry of Roads and Highways aims to maximize the impact of the ‘Big Push’ programme. The Minister concluded by urging all contractors nationwide to maintain high professional standards, noting that the government remains committed to providing the necessary resources to transform the country’s transport landscape.
