The Professional and Managerial Staff Union (PMSU) of Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) PLC has raised concerns over proposed government share disposals that could lead to job losses. During their National Executive Council meeting, Chairman James Obeng-Gyan emphasized the need for safeguards to protect employees and maintain ADB’s mandate to support agriculture and rural communities.
Mr. Obeng-Gyan called for transparency regarding the sale of government shares, advocating for recapitalization as an alternative to ownership changes. The union is currently seeking stronger governance, improved loan recovery, and greater operational efficiency to secure the bank's future while ensuring employee welfare. He highlighted the necessity of lawful and transparent restructuring and urged collaboration among stakeholders to build a financially sustainable ADB that upholds its national development objectives.
The union’s stance comes amid broader discussions regarding the fiscal health of state-participated banks. By focusing on internal reforms rather than a change in ownership, the PMSU believes the bank can remain a robust vehicle for agricultural financing and national development without sacrificing the job security of its workforce. The union is calling on the government to ensure that any future restructuring is conducted within a framework that prioritizes the bank's original purpose and its people.
