The Ladies Section of the Achimota Golf Club has successfully raised GH₵96,960.44 to support breast cancer treatment and early detection efforts at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH). The funds were generated through the 2026 Ocean Network Express Pink Cup Tournament, which was held on October 17 in Accra. The proceeds are specifically earmarked for the procurement of specialized medical equipment for the hospital's surgical department, aimed at improving clinical outcomes for patients battling the disease.
This year's tournament experienced a significant surge in participation, allowing the club to exceed its previous fundraising milestones. Beyond the sporting competition, the event integrated health advocacy by offering clinical screenings to participants and attendees prior to the start of the tournament. This initiative underscores the club's commitment to social responsibility and its dedication to enhancing healthcare infrastructure in Ghana through community-led support.
Lady Captain Kous Louanges Mang highlighted the significance of the collective effort, noting that the initiative was designed to tackle the high mortality rates associated with breast cancer through improved awareness and early intervention. The donation comes at a vital time for Korle Bu, as the hospital continues to modernize its facilities to manage a high volume of surgical cases. Supported by various sponsors and media partners, the success of the Pink Cup sets a new benchmark for how sporting organizations can contribute to national health priorities.
