The Ladies Section of the Achimota Golf Club has raised a record GH₵96,960.44 to support breast cancer treatment at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH). The funds were generated through the 2026 edition of the Ocean Network Express Pink Cup Tournament, held on October 17 in Accra. This initiative is specifically aimed at providing critical medical equipment to the hospital’s breast cancer unit to enhance patient care and improve treatment outcomes for those battling the disease.
The tournament saw a significant increase in participation compared to previous years, allowing the club to exceed its prior fundraising benchmarks. Lady Captain Kous Louanges Mang highlighted that the success of the event was the result of a massive collective effort from club members, corporate sponsors, and the wider community. Beyond the competitive aspect of the golf tournament, the day served as a critical platform for raising awareness about the importance of early detection and the challenges faced by medical facilities in managing breast cancer cases.
In addition to the fundraising activities, the event featured community health screenings conducted prior to the start of the tournament. These screenings offered participants and attendees an opportunity to check their health status, reinforcing the tournament's core mission of promoting proactive wellness. The event was bolstered by several sponsors and media partners whose contributions were instrumental in reaching the record financial target, ensuring that the primary goal of supporting Korle Bu was met.
The donation to Korle Bu Teaching Hospital is expected to address specific equipment needs within the breast cancer department, supporting the hospital's capacity to serve patients from across the country. By merging sports with a humanitarian cause, the Achimota Golf Club continues to play a pivotal role in corporate social responsibility within the Ghanaian health sector. The organizers expressed hope that the annual tournament will continue to grow, fostering a culture of health consciousness and philanthropy among golfers and the general public alike.
