Accra Metropolitan University has announced the indefinite postponement of the Dzenten Festival, which was originally scheduled to take place on November 1, 2026. The decision follows mounting security concerns linked to a land ownership dispute between the traditional authorities of Tema and Nungua. University management indicated that the postponement was necessary to ensure the safety of participants and the general public while tensions remain high between the two neighboring communities.
In a statement, the university emphasized the importance of dialogue in resolving the territorial disagreement and urged the leaders of Tema and Nungua to find an amicable solution. The institution noted that while the festival is a significant platform for cultural celebration, the potential for conflict made it impossible to proceed with the current schedule. The university underscored its commitment to maintaining peace and order as a priority over the planned festivities.
The Dzenten Festival is viewed as a vital event for promoting Ghana’s cultural identity, tourism, and local economic development. Beyond its cultural significance, the event serves as a bridge for community engagement and heritage preservation. The university expressed regret for any inconvenience caused by the delay and apologized to the various stakeholders, contributors, and planners who had already dedicated time and resources toward the event's preparation.
Management has stated that a new date for the Dzenten Festival will be announced at a later time, once the security situation is reassessed and deemed stable. The university remains dedicated to its role in fostering national development through cultural heritage and thanked all partners for their understanding and continued support during this period of uncertainty.
