The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has announced the completion of extensive paving and repair works on Kwame Nkrumah Avenue, a critical thoroughfare within the capital’s Central Business District. Mayor Michael Kpakpo Allotey conducted a formal inspection of the site to mark the conclusion of the project, which was initiated to address deteriorating road conditions that have long plagued commuters and business owners in the area. The completion of these works is expected to significantly improve the flow of traffic in one of Accra’s most congested commercial zones.
The rehabilitation project specifically targeted persistent potholes and severe surface abrasions that had hindered vehicular movement and posed safety risks to both motorists and pedestrians. By restoring the road surface, the AMA aims to minimize the risk of accidents and reduce the wear and tear on vehicles frequently navigating the route. The improvement of this infrastructure is seen as a vital step in modernizing the city's transport network and supporting the high volume of daily transit required for the district’s economic activities.
During his inspection, Mayor Allotey highlighted the assembly's commitment to urban renewal and the necessity of maintaining high-traffic corridors to facilitate trade. He emphasized that the smooth operation of Kwame Nkrumah Avenue is essential for the productivity of local businesses, as it serves as a primary link for goods and services entering and leaving the heart of Accra. The Mayor noted that the timely completion of such repairs is a priority for the AMA to ensure that the city remains a functional environment for commercial growth.
Beyond the physical repairs, the Mayor called upon the public and motorists to play their part in preserving the newly rehabilitated road. He urged drivers to adhere strictly to traffic regulations and to avoid activities that could lead to the rapid degradation of the asphalt surface. As the AMA continues its broader infrastructure maintenance program, officials remain focused on ensuring that regular upkeep becomes a standard practice to prevent future delays and enhance the overall safety of the capital’s road network.
