Abena Osei-Asare, the Member of Parliament for Atiwa East and Chairperson of Ghana’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC), has been re-elected as the Deputy Chairperson of the African Organisation of Public Accounts Committees (AFROPAC). The election took place during the organization’s 2026 General Conference and Meeting, which was hosted in Accra. This victory ensures that Ghana maintains its senior leadership position within the continental body dedicated to enhancing financial oversight and accountability.
The conference in Accra brought together delegates from various African nations to elect a new executive board tasked with overseeing the organization’s operations and strategic direction. Osei-Asare’s successful bid for a second term reflects the confidence of her peers in her leadership and acknowledges Ghana's active role in promoting fiscal transparency. The gathering served as a critical platform for legislative oversight committees to share best practices and strengthen their capacity to monitor public expenditure.
As a leading voice in AFROPAC, Osei-Asare will continue to play a pivotal role in fostering collaboration between Public Accounts Committees across the continent. By retaining this high-ranking seat, Ghana is well-positioned to influence regional policies on financial management and the auditing of public funds. This leadership continuity is expected to bolster international cooperation in the fight against corruption and improve public sector efficiency among member states, reinforcing the standards of good governance across Africa.
