Zoomlion Ghana Limited has launched an extensive disinfestation and fumigation campaign across the Eastern Region to combat the threat of infectious diseases. Covering all 33 Municipal and District Assemblies (MDAs) in the region, the initiative is a proactive response to the heightened risk of cholera, malaria, typhoid, and other waterborne illnesses following recent flooding. The exercise, which officially commenced last Friday, is scheduled to run through September 30, focusing on high-traffic public spaces and potential breeding grounds for pathogens and disease vectors.
The scope of the operation includes the rigorous spraying of markets, lorry parks, and refuse collection sites—areas identified as most susceptible to sanitation challenges and public health risks. Cynthia Gbadago, the Eastern Regional Manager for Zoomlion, highlighted that the exercise is being conducted as part of the company's corporate social responsibility. She stressed that while the chemical spraying is a critical technical intervention, its success depends on public cooperation. Gbadago urged residents to adhere to safety protocols and prioritize personal hygiene to ensure the long-term effectiveness of the sanitization efforts.
This regional health intervention is being carried out in close coordination with local government authorities. The Eastern Regional Environmental Officer has formally supported the collaboration, emphasizing its necessity in maintaining sanitary standards across urban and rural communities. By targeting refuse sites and transit hubs, the teams aim to disrupt the breeding cycles of mosquitoes and minimize the spread of bacteria. As the September 30 deadline approaches, the completion of this exercise is expected to provide a significant health buffer for residents of the Eastern Region during the post-flood recovery period.
