Zoomlion Ghana Limited has launched a comprehensive disinfestation and fumigation exercise across all 33 Municipal and District Assemblies (MDAs) in the Eastern Region. This proactive health intervention is specifically designed to mitigate the risk of disease outbreaks, such as cholera, malaria, and typhoid, following recent flooding in the area. The initiative, which officially commenced last Friday, is being carried out as part of the waste management company’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) to support the health and well-being of residents during a vulnerable period.
The exercise targets high-risk locations where pathogens and disease vectors are most likely to thrive, including local markets, lorry parks, and refuse dump sites. By neutralizing these areas, Zoomlion aims to prevent the contamination of food and water sources that often follows heavy rainfall and drainage overflows. Cynthia Gbadago, the Eastern Regional Manager for Zoomlion, underscored the importance of the exercise, stressing that maintaining public safety requires a concerted effort to manage waste and eliminate breeding grounds for mosquitoes and other pests.
Supporting the initiative, the Eastern Regional Environmental Officer emphasized that this collaboration is vital for sustaining sanitary conditions across the region's diverse communities. Beyond the application of chemicals, the program includes a significant public education component, urging citizens to adopt safer hygiene practices and support environmental cleanliness. The exercise is scheduled to run until September 30, providing a critical buffer against the spread of waterborne illnesses as the region works to stabilize its sanitation infrastructure and public health protocols.
