The Youth Employment Agency (YEA) has entered into a strategic partnership with the Ghana Digital Centre (GDC) to equip 2,000 young Ghanaians with essential Information and Communication Technology (ICT) skills. This initiative, formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), represents a significant step in the agency's effort to address unemployment by diversifying career pathways within the burgeoning digital economy. The collaboration aims to bridge the skills gap and provide young people with the technical competencies needed for the modern workforce.
Malik Basintale, the Chief Executive Officer of the YEA, announced the new training programme during a session of the agency's Accountability Series on October 21, 2026. According to Basintale, the partnership with the Ghana Digital Centre is specifically designed to provide participants with high-level technical expertise that is currently in demand. By focusing on ICT, the YEA is looking to move beyond traditional employment schemes and tap into the high-growth potential of the technology sector, ensuring that beneficiaries are well-prepared for domestic and international opportunities.
The recruitment and enrollment process for the programme is expected to move swiftly. The YEA has set an ambitious timeline to complete the enrollment of all 2,000 beneficiaries by the end of November 2026. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance the employability of Ghanaian youth through targeted skills development and practical training. As the digital landscape continues to evolve, such partnerships are viewed as vital for positioning the youth at the forefront of Ghana's economic transformation.
