The Overlord of the Gonja Kingdom, Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I, is scheduled to attend the Hogbetsotso Za festival in Anloga as the Special Guest of Honour. His participation in the event, set for November 7, marks a significant diplomatic and cultural milestone for the Anlo traditional area. The visit is specifically intended to strengthen the long-standing cultural ties and mutual respect between the Gonja and Anlo traditional areas, bridging the Savannah and Volta regions through shared heritage.
The festival will be centered around a grand durbar of chiefs and people, featuring an array of traditional displays and performances that celebrate the history and migration of the Ewe people. As the Special Guest of Honour, the Yagbonwura's presence will facilitate a unique opportunity for cultural exchange between the two kingdoms. This interaction is expected to highlight the diversity of Ghana’s customs while finding common ground in the preservation of traditional values and the role of chieftaincy in modern governance.
This year's celebrations are guided by the theme, "Anlo, Our Heritage and Our Values: Striving to Build One Ghana for a Better Tomorrow." This focus on national unity is reflected in the invitation of the Gonja Overlord, emphasizing that cultural identity should serve as a foundation for a more cohesive nation. By celebrating their heritage together, the Anlo and Gonja traditional authorities aim to provide a model for inter-ethnic cooperation and national development, reinforcing the importance of cultural heritage in building a better future for all Ghanaians.
